Water (frozen)

Here is the latest in our occasional series of pictures submitted by the members of Curly’s Corner Shop Message Board, the most populat forum these days on Tyneside!

The theme last month was “water” and this is the image that I have chosen from the many that were entered, I was impressed by a number of things, the topical winter viewpoint, the thought which had gone into interpreting the theme, the inventiveness of the picture, and the sheer sparkling quality of it.

The picture was submitted by David Gray, also known as “Beachbum” who lives near Lake Erie just south of Windsor, Ontario in Canada, he is an ex pat Sanddancer from Jarrow.

Dave had this to say about his photo:

It was a nice sunny day and the snow on the roof was melting fast so we had icicles all over.

This was taken through the sliding glass doors on the lake side of the house.

The door was closed and so was the sliding insect screen door which you can make out in the picture.

The screen is just about the same stuff as the starlight filters that were all the rage about 30 years ago so I thought I would try for a retro look.

It worked out OK

I was born in Jarrow but spent most of my time in Shields.

My favorite haunts were The Marsden Inn and the Neon Social Club in the Scotch Estate.

I came to Canada 1n 1967 and am now retired.

The picture was shot on a Canon Powershot SX120IS at 1/250 second, f5.6 on 10th. February 2011 late in the afternoon.
