Fairy light galleon
Christmas decorations in South Shields
We are all lit up for Christmas in South Tyneside and over the next few days I’ll be taking the camera around South Shields, Jarrow, and Hebburn to show you how good we are looking. Most of the decorations are of the modern energy efficient LED types, they are bright and colourful, stand out well, and are cheap to run.
This galleon sits on the roundabour at the foot of Crossgate in South Shields, you can just see the Town Hall clock tower in the background.

Snow on the beach
Sandhaven Beach, South Shields
The unusual sight of snow lying on Sandhaven Beach after an early winter dusting last weekend. The fences on the right have been erected to prevent winter winds blowing the sand inland and to give dune grasses a chance to recover. Trow Rocks in the distance.

Snowy Sandhaven
Winter-on-Sea
A rare picture of snow lying on Sandhaven Beach, South Shields, after a minor winter event last weekend. Normally the salt in the sand would not allow the snow to lie but the temperature at 07;00 was minus 2 Celsius and for a brief hour or two the beaches were white.
