You won’t need spectacles to recognise those hairstyles when you come to South Shields!
The spiral note book effect was achieved in Photoshop with one of Panos’ actions which are available for free download here.
This is the last in this series and we’ll move on to one or two other pictures over the weekend, and a new mini series next week.

Walk like an Egyptian
Pancake Race
This lad racing along King Street, South Shields, appears as though he’s doing an Egyptian dance, rather like the tall tales told years ago about the folks ‘O Shields dancing on the beach (hence our nickname Sanddancers). He’s actually taking part in the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race which attracted good crowds, was great fun, and raised some cash for charity too.
Four teams took part in the relay race on Tuesday with each member running the 100 metre course whilst flipping a pancake in a cast iron skillet, those who drop the pancakes really ought to be disqualified, I think!

Boldon Flats
Little finch
Boldon Flats is a wetland situated between South Shields and Cleadon Village, a large area which is regularly saturated forming huge pools making an ideal habitat for birds and other wildlife. Now I am no expert on flora, fauna, or ornithology, so don’t expect me to know what this little fellow is, I ought to have asked one of the many ornithologists and “twitchers” who congregate here to spot the birds. Trouble is, by time I had handed over the camera the bird would have flown.
I think he’s a finch.
