Tea Room, Morpeth

Old traditions meet continental cafe culture

South Shields Daily Photo has had another away day recently, enjoying a drive up to the Northumberland market town of Morpeth. While we were there we stopped at this delightful but traditional English tea room called the Old Bakehouse, it was situated down a narrow passageway leading into an old courtyard.

Even in South Shields there are moves such as this to blend the older traditions with the modern European cafe culture, tables and chairs placed outside, even at night. Al fresco seems to work well in spring and summer don’t you think?

  2. This is a wonderful photo today! So inviting. Wish I could sit down for a cup of tea at one of those green checked tables.
