Marsden beach, South Shields

Marsden Beach

Sign at the bottom of the steps leading to Marsden Beach, South Shields near Velvet Beds.

As you can see, on some occasions and with some high tides, the beach below the cliffs is not accessible at all (unless you have the personal attributes of Spiderman), there have been many rescues by coastguards and the RNLI of people who have taken the risk of getting on to the beach here and then cut off below the cliff face by the rising tide – beware, it’s a dangerous place!

It is also a very beautiful bay when the tide is out, and very popular with the beachside bar built into the caves (Marsden Grotto)

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 82 mm lens, 1/2000 second, f6.7, iso 200
