Vikings at Arbeia Roman Fort, South Shields

Battle at Roman Fort

Viking raiders returned to the Tyne this weekend and attacked the Saxons settled near the Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend and the Arbeia Roman Fort here in South Shields.

Members of the “Regia Angolorum” Viking re-enactment group took us back in time to AD 850 and staged battle with the local settlers who had been here since the Romans left the fort. They were part of The Living Frontier, a programme of events which will bring 2,000 years of history to life along Hadrian’s Wall.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 330 mm lens, 1/1500 second, f5.6, iso 200
