South Shields harbour

Harbour Drive, old alignment.

This is a common sight in many parts of eastern England, and often it’s much worse than this when high spring tides combine with northerly or easterly winds to produce coast battering high waves. This is South Shields harbour at Littlehaven beach, and this piece of old road is now closed off to traffic, many years ago this was Harbour Drive, but it’s alignment was changed and moved about fifty yards further back and away from the harbour wall, at least now the flooding of the road is a rare event.

Converted to black and white and colour toned in Photoshop.
