Anthocharis cardamines

Butterfly, South Shields

Orange tip butterfly

I think I’ve identified this one correctly, a male anthocharis cardamines, a common British butterfly at this time of year, I found this one along the banks of the River Don which flows through the Boldons, South Shields, and Jarrow.

Although I was using a long lens set to macro, the image has been cropped.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 450 mm lens (macro), 1/500 second, f5.6, iso 200

  1. Nice photo of lovely orange tip. I saw one a couple of weeks back but it only opened its wings as it flew off over a high wall.
