Open for business

Flag, South Shields

Sea Road, South Shields

The flags are flying now, the sun begins to shine and warm the skin more often, there is a gentle sea breeze carrying the odours and flavours of freshly fried cod and chips with vinegar, doughnuts, and candy floss, mingling with roasted coffee beans,  mocha and latte, and the sight of Minchellas ice cream melting in small pools around your feet.

The gentle babble of voices and laughter is now and then drowned by the tub thumping boom carried on the breeze from huge speakers pumping 70s disco music or rock ‘n’ roll from the amusement park nearby. Yes, South Shields sea front is well and truly open for business and the flags are flying to catch the eye and entice us with a splash of colour.

I knew before I’d pushed the shutter that I would personally like this image, it’s clean, unsophisticated, simply composed, and strong with primary colours, for me it has the right combinations.
