A fine building
Former Co-op regional HQ, Jarrow.
I have to confess to knowing little about this fine late 1800s building situated on the corner of Albert Road and Hill Street in Jarrow, there are few others of this size and grandeur so well maintained in South Shields. I know that it was once the regional office of the North Eastern Co-operative Society and was known for many years as the Co-operative Hall, I understand that it also served as a Parish Centre for St. Bede’s Church in Jarrow, but I am open to be corrected if this was not the case.
A fine piece of architecture none the less, and I’d be grateful to receive some further detail about the building’s history. (Just where is Mr. Grundy when you need him?)
