Flash @ Hebburn

Flash @ Hebburn

This is South Tyneside’s newest public art installation Flash @ Hebburn, I’ll be looking into the night sky from South Shields to see if I can see any flashing lights reflected from the clouds, and others will probably telephone the local police to let them know about recent sightings of UFOs. 🙂

This conceptual piece of public art comprises of 12 eight metre high poles with solar panels on top supplying the energy for the night time displays from the LED lighting. The whole project flashes in sequences supposedly designed to reflect the industrial history of the locality, the famous Hawthorn Leslie shipyard on the River Tyne was only a few yards away from this location at Riverside Park in Hebburn. Using RF technology the lights will also react to people walking amongst or around them, so it should be very interesting after dark.

Here they are on opening night blinking at the moon.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 28 mm lens, 3 seconds, f8, iso 800, Velbon tripod
