Walk like an Egyptian

Panvake Race, South Shields

Pancake Race

This lad racing along King Street, South Shields, appears as though he’s doing an Egyptian dance, rather like the tall tales told years ago about the folks ‘O Shields dancing on the beach (hence our nickname Sanddancers). He’s actually taking part in the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race which attracted good crowds, was great fun, and raised some cash for charity too.

Four teams took part in the relay race on Tuesday with each member running the 100 metre course whilst flipping a pancake in a cast iron skillet, those who drop the pancakes really ought to be disqualified, I think!

Cropped from a larger image and colour picked in Photoshop.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 42 mm lens, 1/90 second, f4.5, iso 200
