Demonstration in South Shields

Yesterday evening the South Shields MP and Foreign Secretary David Miliband, along with the Defence Secretary John Hutton attended South Shields Labour Party’s annual dinner at South Shields College. They were greeted by a crowd of 75 demonstrators protesting about Israel’s recent insurgency into the Gaza strip, they were drawn from the Stop the War Coalition and Tyneside Palestinian Solidarity Campaign as well as the Socialist Workers Party.

The protest was noisy but good humoured and well policed, many of the placards were home made and one was even painted on an inflatable air bed!

I was not supporting either side in this argument, I was only there to record it and show you just another facet of our varied life in South Shields.

I guess we are lucky that our society allows such protests.

  1. these protesters should educate themselves before making such protests, let them ask the palestinian fatah supporters first, about human rights then decide if israel is the side denying them humanrights .hamas are terrorists ask your goverment and to say you are not taking sides is a copout everytime you and other journalits give the terrorists airtime it plays into their hands so please keep your photographs un political
