Westoe Village, South Shields

Westoe Village

It’s a while since we last looked upwards towards the more eccentric, decorous, elaborate, contrived, or at time wonderful architecture above our heads in South Shields.

This unusual attic embelishment was found in Westoe Village and I can imagine that the property’s first owner might either have been a man of the sea (when it was built the house was in a commanding position in the village with little or no other properties in it’s line of sight to the beach) or a man interested in astronomy. This room high in the attic would have afforded good all round views, particularly with a telescope.

Camera details: Konica Minolta Dimage Z3, 180mm lens, 1/640 second, f4, iso 100
