Decorated tree, South Shields

Illuminated attraction

South Tyneside Council have gone to town this year with our Christmas decorations for South Shields and the surrounding area, but instead of buying huge amounts of trees that will need to be disposed of in January they have been a bit clever and innovative, especially at roundabouts and major road junctions. This tree grows on a roundabout opposite the West Park at the junction of Stanhope Road and Temple Park Road, it is illuminated with LEDs which are particularly cheap to power.

This image has been done in Photoshop as an HDR merge (High Definition Range) it is a combination of four different exposures taken as the light levels dropped, the final exposure was taken with flash. The idea is to show a huge range of highlight and shadow detail, and it accounts for the changes in the colour of the sky too.
