Remembrance Sunday Parade, South Shields

On Parade in South Shields

All nicely presented with boots “spit and polished”, members of the Army Cadet Force on parade at Wesoe, South Shields.

The art of achieving this degree of polish on heavy leather boots is dying out, apart from in the armed services, fathers no longer pass the skills on to their sons, and even police officers are no longer required to present themselves with such smart footwear these days.

  1. Great photo – good composition & B&W was the perfect choice! You’re right about the art of spit & polishing dying out. There seems to be no pride out there anymore when it comes to shoes. In my industry, safety shoes are paid for by the company but nobody polish them and once the black is worn off, they order new ones …..!
