frosty leaves, South Shields

Frosty start to yesterday

Every thing was white, sharp, and crunchy underfoot in South Shields yesterday morning as temperatures plunged below freezing overnight. Where leaves had fallen they were fast to the ground, frozen solid, every sound beneath my feet was amplified through ears that were sharpened as blood rushed around to warm them, it was mighty cold.

Where the shadows lay, temperatures failed to rise at all, yet where the sunlight brought it’s warmth the land melted in it’s embrace in one pace my feet moved from solid earth as hard as concrete into soft mud that squelched and squirmed. The contrasts were startling and sudden, but the variety was welcome.

This shot was taken in the North Marine Park, South Shields
