Horse riding in South Shields

Horse riding in and around South Shields

South Shields is largely an urban area surrounded by four villages and a small “green belt” of agricultural land on two sides, the River Tyne on the north and the North Sea on the east, so it is surprising that there are so many people enjoying rural activities such as horsemanship.

There is a great deal to be learned about man’s relationship with the horse, the development of equine skills needs to be commenced at an early age, and some riders have a marked preference for the temperament of one beast rather than another. Some horses have quite indefinable qualities, and the riders engage in almost a lifelong friendship with the animal.

Here we see two girls out riding near the Tilesheds at Boldon.
