Shotblasting, South Shields

Despite the near death of shipbuilding on the River Tyne there is still a little heavy industry here and there in South Shields.

At the yard of Aker McNulty they refurbish, make anew, and make from fresh, modular parts for oil rigs, and do major overhauls of existing rigs mainly for the North Sea Oil fields. Here we see a shot blaster at work high up on the underside of a giant four legged oil platform.

This has been cropped from a larger image.
