North Shields fish quay, viewed from South Shields

Just before the sun was rising

This view of North Shields fish quay was taken at around 05:50, about an hour before sunrise. The tall white building is known as the High Light and was used as a navigational aid for ships entering the River Tyne in the years before we had modern lighthouses.

The shot was taken from Harbour View in South Shields, a modern housing complex which was built on reclaimed land which used to store petro-chemicals.

Camera details:Pentax K100D, 82mm lens, 1 second, f8, iso 800, Velbon tripod.
