Policeman and boy, Great North Run, South Shields 2008

Great North Run 2008, #3.

When I was a schoolboy I was taught to believe that a policeman is your friend, and that you should never be afraid to approach him.

The Great North Run which ends every year at the sea front in South Shields attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, it could be so easy to get lost in the crowds, separated from friends or family, perhaps the young lad had lost someone. Perhaps he wanted to get to somewhere but found that the roads ahead were closed, perhaps he wanted to get to a point where he was not allowed to go. Perhaps he was interested in the policeman’s motorbike and communications equipment.

Who knows what they were talking about?

  1. You just made me realize that our policemen would be one of the last in my list of people to run to for help. How sad is that?
