Westoe RFC, South Shields

Westoe RFC

Westoe Rugby Football Club play at Woods Terrace, South Shields, and they can trace their history back to 1875 when Charlie Green and a few pals decided to accept a challenge from Tynemouth over a game of Rugby. South Shields Cricket club had been formed 25 years earlier when the rugby lads decided to join them at Woods Terrace, where they have been ever since. They purchased the ground from the Church Commissioners for £2500 just after the First World War.

Here we see Kiwi fly half Sam Rasch kicking the first of 47 unanswered points against Middlesbrough last weekend.

Cropped from a larger image. I really ought to have gone for a higher shutter speed.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 55mm lens, 1/125 second, f11, iso 200
