This is the view inland from the mouth of the River Tyne at South Shields. The smart new properties of Harbour View have replaced Velva Liquids which stood for years as a petro-chemical storage plant on this site. The former life of the site was made famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) by the “torso in the tank” murder case which saw Ernest Clarke, a former employee of Velva Liquids convicted of the grisly murder of Eileen MacDougall.
Today Harbour View in South Shields affords great views of the reduced traffic on the River Tyne and a vista which takes in the Groyne and the North and South Piers.
