Odd tops No. 4
Casa Rosa
This is the next in my occasional series of “odd tops” (those ornate architectural beauties that you never see, because we don’t spend enough time looking upwards.)
This is the Casa Rosa restaurant in Fowler Street, South Shields which sports a corner turret with domed top and a smattering of Victorian finials, I understand that it’s interior has an exquisite and ornately decorated ceiling, although I have never been inside to see it.
This restaurant had been a branch of the Co-operative Insurance Society for many years and was previously known as the Victoria Hall, although I am yet to learn how it started it’s life on Fowler Street.

My mother seems to think that before the co-op took it over it was a dance Hall although she cant remember its name .

This was one of the haunts of your mother, Curly. She went dancing in all of the Dance Halls in South Shields and always referred to this one simply as the Victoria.
