Four rocks by the sea

with 4 comments

Graham Sands, South Shields

Graham Sands

Graham Sands is a small rocky cove and beach situated behind Trow Rocks in South Shields. I spent an hour there two days ago and came away with some of the best long exposure landscapes that I’ve taken in a long while, so I’ll be featuring a number of them over the next couple of weeks. These four rocks have been deliberately positioned here to break up the huge waves that cause coastal erosion of an outcrop of an old quarry which adjoins this beach.

To allow me to shoot long exposures at 2.00 p.m. in the afternoon I needed to use a circular polariser, a 4 x ND filter, and a graduated grey filter in front of the lens.

Camera details; Pentax K100D, 28mm lens, 1/4 second, f22, iso 200, Velbon tripod.

  4. That’s a lovely photo. It looks like something you’d see on a poster.
