Roasting chestnuts in South Shields

One of the advantages of winter is that the air is fresh and crisp, smells and aromas tend to carry further, particularly if there is warmth to them. Here we find a man roasting chestnuts to sell in Ocean Road, South Shields, an old fashioned traditional Yuletide treat. Perhaps soon we might find a German tradition making it’s way over here when the Continental Christmas market comes to town. Will we be tempted by the sweet aroma of gluwein?

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 28mm lens, 1/20 second, f5.6, iso 400. Photoshop tint and tone action.

  1. Almost like the CChristmas Carol – Roasting Chestnuts, but in a covered cart. It looks chilly and damp, but I imagine the chestnuts are warm and very good.
