Winter weather

Westoe Road, South Shields

We had our first view of winter today as sleet and light snow showers visited the North East coast of England this morning. Dark brooding skies, a temperature of 1 degree celcius, driving winds, and generally miserable.

Here the traffic is zipping into the town centre in Westoe Road, South Shields, the optician on the opposite side of the road from St. Bede’s Church would probably have made more trade if they were selling umbrellas today!

Three or four adjustment layers were needed in Photoshop to bring up and emphasise the sleet.

Camera details,: Pentax K100D, 28mm lens, 1/5 second, f22, iso 200, hand held.

  1. Not sure about this one Curly, it looks a little bit too doctored. I was actually surprised to find it snowing here last Sunday. Even the local airport shut for 40 minutes.

  2. I like how you can see the light of the pedestrian crossing pole in the reflection but not in the actual street scene. Would love to see a photo on the christmas lights at the crossroads (which I believe were being switched on today)!
