Remembrance Sunday, South Shields

The juxtaposition

We held our annual Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph, Westoe, South Shields yesterday. Please see this post in my main blog for further details and a slide show. I’ll be featuring a few more pictures this week from this event.

I was struck by the juxtaposition of the “man of the cloth” and the “men of arms”, and wondered what part he played as a service chaplain (perhaps) in order to have been awarded a campaign medal for himself. War is a dreadful political device necessary as a last resort, we should always remember those who fell, and those who stumbled, we should never ever forget.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 450mm lens, 1/250 second, f9.5, iso 200

  3. I’m late getting to this (Tues), but I wanted to tell you how much I like this photo! The juxtaposition of the men, the expression on the priest’s face. . .I also like that only the poppy is in color. Very, very nice!
