The running man

topiary in South Shields

Another Great North Run favourite

I’ll make this the final picture from the 2007 Great North Run (I think). This “running man” is almost a work of art, but not quite topiary, he is made of a metal mesh framework with many small green plants growing within it, and he is situated on a roundabout at the junctions of King George Road and John Reid Road in South Shields. We’ve been putting him on roundabouts for the past two or three years to encourage the runners as they meet the most demanding uphill stretches on the 13.5 mile course.

It’s great to be back online with the pc fixed, a nice new motherboard, processor, more ram, and a new graphics card too. I’ve still got lots of work to do reinstalling all of my software and creating all of my favourite bookmarks in my browser, but it’s all underway and posting should be back to normal from today!

  1. Now that’s different, and hardly vegetative. My son is running the half marathon at the Detroit Marathon in a couple of weeks and you have given me lots of good ideas about how to shoot such an event.

  2. These ‘plant people’ seem to be everywhere these days. Good luck with the new PC.

  3. Oh he is very fine. Did you risk life and limb to get on the roundabout? Thanks!
