Digging on the beach, South Shields

Digging deep

Two little boys digging deep on Sandhaven Beach, South Shields. They remind me of my childhood, I wonder if they are trying to reach Australia too?

  1. When we were kids there were dozens of days each year at the beach. The best I ever got toward building a sand castles was to dig a deep hole like these kids. But it wasn’t just a whole. It was and igloo, a foxhole, a volcano, a ship on the ocean — wherever our imagination lead us.

  5. I like this photograph. It brings back to me some memories of the digging we did during the war years playing soldier.

The carefree days of my youth.

  10. My brother and I would always did holes in our backyard, and pretend to make a swimming pool. The only thing we accomplished was to drive our parents insane.
