Cornthwaite Park, Whitburn, nr South Shields

Cornthwaite Park

I had an enjoyable walk around Whitburn Village a couple of days ago, it’s at the southern edge of South Tyneside’s boundary with Sunderland, Lewis Carrol the author of Alice in Wonderland was a frequent visitor here.

Taking in the village centre, the site of the old Whitburn Hall, the cricket ground and Cornthwaite Park. This small but well maintained municipal park is a real gem, one of our best kept secrets.

This ornamental stream runs through a third of the parkland, and you can see the parish church in the distance.
