River Tyne at Hebburn

River Tyne at Hebburn

Many years ago this stretch of the River Tyne was choked with the industries that made us, shipbuilding, ship repair, and coal. There is still some work going on along the banks of the River Tyne, A&P Appledore on the north side occupy the former Swan Hunter shipyards at Walker and Wallsend and fabricate for the North Sea Oil industry. On the south side in the distance we can just see the small marina at Hebburn, this was close to the former Hawthorn Leslie shipyards which built some of the U.K’s largest merchant and Royal Navy ships during World War ll.

This picture was taken from the Hebburn Riverside Park.
