artificial flowers, south shields market

A small tribute

Following the death of that strange but talented pop singer Michael Jackson, I offer this as my own tribute – black and white – it was the title of one of my favourites of his recent songs.

The picture is a close crop of some artificial flowers offered on a stall in South Shields Market Place captured in fairly flat light on yet another dull and overcast day, but I hear we may see some sunshine next week!

Market day

South Shields market

South Shields Market

A busy Saturday on the market, it always seems busier when the weather is better, and all of the stalls are occupied. We can see St. Hilda’s Church in the background, where you can pop in for a cup of tea or coffee on market days. We have had a market here in South Shields for hundreds of years, regular markets are held on Mondays and Saturdays, and a “flea market” is held on Fridays, every week of the year, whatever the weather!

Warehouse lofts

warehouse lofts, Newcastle

Newcastle upon Tyne

I found this view on a recent Sunday morning trip from South Shields to Newcastle to visit the Quayside Market, it’s a view of some very old bonded warehouses which have been imaginatively converted into modern apartments bringing people back in towards the city centre and the riverside.

The picture was seen reflected in the mirror of a stall holder who was busy making decorative mirrors with recycled pieces of glass and old picture frames!

Continental Market, South Shields

Continental Market

Nuts, candy coated, sugar coated, toffee coated, chilli coated and all sorts of other flavours too. All recently available on one of the stalls taken by continental traders at South Shields Market Place.

I was attracted first by the smells and then the clour and texture.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 50 mm lens, 1/125 second, f5.6, iso 200

A riot of colour

I found them on South Shields Market on Monday, full of colour and texture.

Do you know what they are?

Cropped from a larger image.
