Recycling Christmas trees

Shall we do Christmas all over again?

This is one of the entrances to the West Park in South Shields, now being used as a collection point for used Christmas trees, they will be recycled, possibly turned into wood chippings for use as a garden mulch. South Tyneside District Council have set up a number of collection points where trees can be taken to be safely recycled.

The picture sugests that the Scots Pine is still the regional favourite for use at Christmas!

The Bridges, Sunderland

Late night shopping at The Bridges

There are always times when you cannot buy what you need in your own town, and neighbouring communities may have a little more to offer. That’s why “Junior” and I ended up in Sunderland yesterday afternoon, joining those late night shoppers looking for a bargain in the January sales. The Christmas decorations are still very much evident, but it won’t belong before they are taken down and put away for the next time. This is the glassed entrance toThe Bridges shopping centre in Sunderland, just a few miles away from South Shields.

South Shields Town Hall

Another view of our Georgian Town Hall, lit up, illuminated, and decorated for the Christmas period, this view takes in the forecourt and the bottom of Westoe Road, South Shields. The horizontal lines were caused by the passing lights of the cars.

Jack and the Beanstalk

Yes it’s pantomime season, and Jack and the Beanstalk is playing at the Customs House in South Shields. Seeing as it’s a fully in-house production the artwork on the outside wall of the theatre has been produced by locals and very eye catching it is!

Reindeer in Whitburn Village

Here is another in the series of LED decorations provided by South Tyneside Council. This reindeer is in Whitburn Village near South Shields and stands opposite the Jolly Sailor public house, unfortunately it has suffered some minor damage, but is still attractive.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 28mm lens, 1/6 second, f9.5, iso 400, white balance tungsten, velbon tripod.
