The Pilot Jetty

The Pilot Jetty, South Shields

Pre dawn, River Tyne

This shot was taken from the wooden promenade at the rear of Harbour View, South Shields at around 05:40 am, an hour so before sunrise. We can see the yellow remains of the old Pilot Jetty, and a faint glimmer from the light on the Groyne to the right. In the distance the light from Tynemouth’s lighthouse glints from the River Tyne as she flows into the North Sea on a high tide.

White balance was set to tungsten for this longish exposure with the camera firmly mounted on a tripod.

Camera details: Pentax K100D, 28mm lens, 2 seconds, f4, iso 800, velbon tripod.
