Boldon Flats near South Shields

Boldon Flats, near South Shields

It’s a duck, and it’s on water, what else can I tell you?

Boldon Flats is an area of land just outside of South Shields where many birds gather, it is a popular haunt with birdwatchers, ornithologists, “twitchers”. There is a permanent pond there and often the surrounding area floods after rain so it is an ideal habitat for waders and dippers, as well as migrating birds from Scandinavia. Ornithology is not my strongpoint, perhaps we should ask Pops Lincoln at Brookville Daily Photo if he can identify this little duck for us.

This is a crop from a larger image.
